Stikkan®
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Stikkan® work technically?
Stikkan uses a lever mechanism where a handle presses a blade against the log. It is mounted vertically on the wall, providing power, precision, and safety during splitting.
At what height should Stikkan® be mounted on the wall?
Stikkan® should be placed at a height suitable for the person who uses it most often. When in use, you press with your stomach and hip, so the handle, when lowered, should be at hip or thigh height. If it is mounted too high or too low, it becomes harder to generate the proper force in the movement.
For example, if the person who uses it most is 180 cm tall, Stikkan® should be mounted no higher than 120 cm at the top edge. It is better to mount it slightly too low than too high.
How safe is Stikkan® to use – is there a child safety lock?
Stikkan is equipped with a simple yet effective lock, in the form of a ring, which prevents the handle from being lowered when not in use. This reduces the risk of children or unauthorized persons using it. We still recommend that Stikkan be mounted out of reach of small children and only used under supervision.
Does the type of wood used matter?
It’s important to consider which type of wood to split. Remember that Stikkan® is not designed for splitting large logs, but for splitting kindling and smaller pieces of already prepared wood. Also, avoid using very hard wood. It’s better to use slightly fresher, softer wood. Read more about wood here.
How do I maintain Stikkan® for optimal durability?
Stikkan requires minimal maintenance. Wipe it down as needed and try to keep it free from dirt, sap, and dust. Since it is made of electro-galvanized cast iron, it is rust-resistant. Avoid using it on overly wet or coarse wood to preserve both function and finish.
Regularly check that the screws are secure and that the mechanism operates smoothly. The blade can be sharpened when needed, even though sharpening tools are not sold by us.
Does Stikkan® need sharpening?
Stikkan doesn’t need to be particularly sharp to work, but it can be sharpened if needed for better cutting performance, even though we do not sell sharpening tools.
